The Band:
Essex band “The Chase” were formed in 2003 by Southport born Steve McLean. The Chase consists of Steve McLean (vocals), Scottish guitarist John Mannion, Southend bassist James Goulding, and “Brummy” percussionist Chris Barron with Yorkshireman Ed Rotherahm on the Keys. The young Ollie Bettell has been filling the boots of his late father and previous drummer Micheal, with the inspired drumming his Dad would have been extremely proud of.
The Story…
…Steve’s inspiration came after a life changing two year incarceration in Veinhuizen, Holland, where he wrote the majority of his first album "All This Love and Hate". Soon after he moved to Southend-on-Sea where teamed up with drummer Michael Bettell and friend and producer Mark Cunningham. They went on to complete "All This Love and Hate" shortly afterwards at Studio Adelaide in Brentwood with Grant Matthews (engineer). After local radio play, they finally made national radio on "The Steve Wright Show" Radio 2 with the song "Always". This song proving the most radio friendly track from that album.
The new combination of inspired musicians is now bringing the rawness and simplicity out of the songs that the lads always knew could be produced. The Chase’s huge array of blisteringly passionate lyrics and song writing capabilities are no more emphasized with one of their latest recordings, "Libby's Song". The song expresses the heart felt passion of coming so close to losing the most precious thing to you, as Steve agonizes at his new baby daughter’s bedside in ‘intensive care’ after a life saving heart operation. A powerful song with deep lyrics like, "A once faithless heart cries out within...”.
